The future car of Tesla, expected in 2022, will offer an optional “Space X pack” derived from rockets. This technology will allow the Roadster to fly, according to Elon Musk.
A Tesla soon able to fly? That’s what Elon Musk claims. The whimsical founder of the brand launched this little bomb on Twitter, Wednesday, January 9, in response to a user who posted a GIF representing the DeLorean DMC-12 Back to the Future.
According to him, the new Tesla Roadster, which will cost nearly 200,000 dollars (about 173,000 euros), can “float” above the ground.
Elon Musk then confirmed his comments by delivering some details, always on the social network: “I’m not kidding. We will use the SpaceX cold gas thrusters system with ultra-high pressure air. It will be protected in a composite box and integrated instead of the two rear seats.”
A Technology Derived From Space X
Last July, Tesla announced that the new Roadster would offer an optional “Space X Package”. But, initially, this technology derived from Space X rockets was mainly to boost acceleration, speed, braking or even the handling of the vehicle.
According to the brand, the device will allow the roadster to display outstanding performance with a 0 to 100 km / h in just 2.1 seconds or a top speed of 400 km / h.
The new Tesla Roadster is scheduled to hit the market in 2022. Marty McFly fans can already book the car, provided they make a first deposit of $50,000 (43,000 euros).
